Settings & Options
Customize Guitar Assistant according to your preferences. Adjust your default tuning, preferred difficulty level, right/left-handed orientation, and other personal settings to create a tailored learning experience.
Right/Left Handed
All content is available in both right-handed and left-handed orientations, with right-handed being the default. To switch to left-handed orientation:
- Navigate to the My Account page
- Turn on the "Left Handed" switch
- Save your changes
Skill Level
What's your current playing level? This helps us recommend appropriate content. To update your skill level:
- Navigate to the My Account page
- Select your preferred level from the "Skill Level" dropdown
- Save your changes
We classify our levels as:
- Beginner - Just starting out. Learning basic chords and transitions.
- Novice - Comfortable with basic chords and simple songs. Starting to develop finger strength and dexterity.
- Intermediate - Can play barre chords, knows pentatonic scales, and can learn songs with moderate difficulty.
- Advanced - Comfortable with complex techniques, can improvise, and learns difficult songs with practice.
- Expert - Mastered most techniques, can play complex pieces fluently, and might be teaching others.
Instrument Tuning
All content is provided in a wide variety of popular tunings, giving you flexibility based on your playing context. Here are the methods to set your tuning:
1. Default Tuning
Set a permanent preferred tuning that applies every time you log in:
- Navigate to the My Account page
- Select your preferred tuning from the "Default Tuning" dropdown
- Save your changes
2. Session Tuning
Change your tuning temporarily for your current session:
Method 1: Using the Settings Menu
- Type "Settings" in the chat
- Select the tuning option
- Select the tuning category (Standard, Open, Drop, Baritone, 7 String etc.)
- Select your desired tuning
Method 2: Direct Request
- Simply type the tuning name or notes followed by "tuning" in the chat

Examples:
- "Drop D tuning"
- "DADGBE tuning"
Your session tuning selection affects all chord and scale diagrams until you change it again, browse to a different page, or log out.
Maximum Difficulty
Much of our content is ranked on a 5-level difficulty scale from Very Easy to Very Hard, with the default showing all content regardless of difficulty. You can control the highest level you would like to see.
Leaving this setting on its default option allows you to always see all results, and you can ignore what doesn't apply to you. If you would rather not see the harder content at all, you can lower your maximum difficulty setting.
Here are the methods to set your maximum difficulty:
1. Default Difficulty
Set a preferred difficulty that applies every time you log in:
- Navigate to the My Account page
- Select your highest level of difficulty from the "Maximum Difficulty" dropdown
- Save your changes
2. Session Difficulty
Change your difficulty temporarily for your current session:
Method 1: Using the Settings Menu
- Type "Settings" in the chat
- Select the difficulty option
- Select your preferred option (Very Easy, Easy, Hard etc.)
Method 2: Direct Request
- Simply tell the chat assistant to change your difficulty setting

- "Set difficulty to very easy"
Your session difficulty selection affects how content is filtered until you change it again, browse to a different page, or log out.
Note: On lower difficulty settings, there may be no results for a specific request if all matches exceed your chosen difficulty level.
Chord Diagrams & Variations
Access guitar chord diagrams and information quickly and easily through multiple methods:
1. Simple Text Commands
Type brief phrases to the chat assistant to get immediate results e.g.
- "C minor chord"
- "Dsus2 chord"
No need for typing complete sentences—just the essential information.
2. Button Navigation
Use the guided button system above the chat input e.g.
- Click the "Chords" action button
- Select your root note from the options (C, C#, D, etc.)
- Choose your chord type (Major, Minor, Sus2, etc.)
Exploring Chord Variations
Each chord is available in multiple positions, shapes, and difficulty levels across the fretboard:
- After viewing any chord diagram, click the "Next Position" button to see alternative shapes for the same chord
- Continue clicking to cycle through all available positions until you find one that suits your needs
- For faster access to specific positions, include the position in your request e.g "C major chord 8th fret"
This variety of shapes allows you to choose the most comfortable or musically appropriate voicing for your playing context.
Scale Patterns & Positions
Access guitar scale diagrams and information quickly and easily through multiple methods:
1. Simple Text Commands
Type brief phrases to to the chat assistant to get immediate results e.g.
- "D major scale"
- "E minor pentatonic scale"
No need for typing complete sentences—just the essential information.
2. Button Navigation
Use the guided button system above the chat input e.g.
- Click the "Scales" action button
- Select your root note from the options (C, C#, D, etc.)
- Choose your scale type (Major, Minor, Pentatonic, etc.)
Exploring Scale Positions
Each scale is available in multiple positions across the fretboard:
- After viewing any scale diagram, click the "Next Position" button to see alternative positions for the same scale
- Continue clicking to cycle through all available positions until you find one that suits your needs
- For faster access to specific positions, type the position in your request: "A minor scale 12th fret"
This variety of positions allows you to choose the most comfortable or musically appropriate patterns for your playing context.
Key-Based Playing & Theory
Access complete information about playing within a specific key using these methods:
1. Simple Text Commands
Type brief phrases to get immediate results:
- "Chords in the key of C Major"
- "Scales in the A Minor key"
After your request:
- Suggested action buttons will appear for each chord (displayed in a sequence matching the degrees of the key) or scale in the requested key.
- Click any button to see diagrams, or type the name of a specific chord/scale you want to explore
2. Button Navigation
Use the guided button system:
- Click the "Keys" action button above the chat input
- Select your root note from the options (C, C#, D, etc.)
- Choose your key type (Major, Minor)
- Select either Chords or Scales
- Choose from the chord or scale buttons that appear for your selected key
Exploring Positions Within a Key
All key information is available in multiple positions across the fretboard:
- Use the "Next Position" button to cycle through alternative positions and shapes

Lock your exploration to a specific fretboard position by including the position in your request:
Example: "Chords in the C Major key at the 8th fret".
This "position lock" feature:- Keeps your context at the specified fret position
- Shows you chord shapes close to that position as you select different chords
- Remains active until you ask an unrelated question
- Helps you quickly develop alternate chord progressions or find solo notes in specific neck positions
Progression Chords & Theory
Access popular chord progressions organized by genre through these easy methods:
1. Simple Text Commands
Type brief phrases to instantly get progression information:
- "I-V-vi-IV progression in C Major"
- "i-iv-V-i progression in A Minor"
After your request:
- Suggested action buttons will appear for each chord, displayed in sequence of the progression.
- Click any chord button, or type the chord name directly, to see its diagram
2. Button Navigation
Use the guided button system:
- Click the "Progressions" action button above the chat input
- Select your root note (C, C#, D, etc.)
- Choose your key type (Major, Minor)
- Select a genre (Pop, Rock, Jazz, Country, etc.)
- Pick from the recommended progressions for that genre/key combination
Position-Specific Progressions
Find creative progressions for specific areas of the fretboard:
- Use the "Next Position" button after selecting any chord to see alternative shapes

Lock your progression to a specific fretboard position by including the position in your request:
Example: "I-iv-V-I progression in D Minor at the 10th fret"
This "position lock" feature:- Keeps your context at the specified fret position
- Shows chord shapes near that position as you select different chords
- Remains active until you ask an unrelated question
- Helps you quickly develop creative voicings for familiar progressions in different neck positions
